COVID-19 Testing and Screening

OPTUMSERVE TESTING SITES

The State of California and the COVID-19 Testing Task Force have joined together with OptumServe in a partnership to expand COVID-19 testing services in California. On Wednesday, May 13th, four sites will begin taking appointments for testing services in Orange County located in the cities of Buena Park, Orange, Santa Ana and San Juan Capistrano, Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

APPOINTMENT REQUIRED

If you fit the testing criteria and are interested in getting a test, it’s important to know that tests are by appointment only. Appointments can be made and location details confirmed, by visiting https://lhi.care/covidtesting or calling 1 (888) 634-1123. Please note that phone registration will only be used for people without internet access.

THE TEST

The testing offered is FDA-authorized PCR testing that identifies current infection (not past) through collection of a specimen using a nasal-pharyngial swab. PCR testing is still imperfect and, particularly with asymptomatic people, the test may falsely identify someone as negative. Therefore, results should be interpreted cautiously.

PAYMENT

If an individual has medical insurance, OptumServe will bill the patient’s medical insurance company. Uninsured individuals may also use the community test site, and their tests will be paid for by the state. Individuals receiving tests will not be charged.

TESTING CRITERIA

Symptomatic AND asymptomatic health care workers, first responders, social service workers and other essential workers who have been unable to get tested through their health care providers or employers can make an appointment to be tested at these sites.

There is no medical assessment offered at the Optum Test Sites; so it is recommended that people with symptoms should contact their medical provider or, if they do not have a provider, go to a clinic listed on the OC COVID-19 Testing Network at www.ochealthinfo.com/novelcoronavirus.

OC COVID-19 Testing Network

test tube and q-tips The following locations offer FDA-authorized COVID-19 testing to Orange County residents
who have symptoms of COVID-19. This test identifies if you are currently infected based upon a sample taken with a swab. It is not a blood test, nor does it test for antibodies. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath. Other symptoms sometimes include: fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and loss of taste or smell. This list is not all inclusive. You will receive a medical assessment before being tested and you will only be tested if you have symptoms of the disease.
dollar sign with slash There is no out-of-pocket cost to you for this testing, however your insurance may be billed. You are asked to contact your medical provider first and only access these services if you do not have a provider or your provider is unable to provide testing.
medical case Because of continued challenges of obtaining testing supplies and Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) for health care providers conducting tests, testing may be restricted at times to high priority groups, as defined by the California Department of Public Health or Orange County Public Health.
